Diet By Disease
What you eat and drink has a huge influence on how your body works. Eating a well balanced diet will significantly increase your odds of being healthy. Getting enough protein, the right kind of sugars, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables is essential to overall wellbeing. Any nutrition class will offer plenty of sound information about how to eat right to maintain a healthy weight and strong immune system. Sometimes though, a person’s body does not respond correctly to even the best treatment. And sometimes, a body that has been abused too long will need special treatment. Diet by disease is a method of eating that pinpoints specific health problems and treats those problems through a specialized diet. To diet by disease, you may wish to set up an appointment with a registered dietician or your personal physician in order to ensure that you are getting the nutrition you need. Here are some easy tips to follow if you would like to start investigating diet by disease on your own. If at any time you experience uncomfortable side effects, such as gastrointestinal distress, resume your normal diet and contact a health professional. Diet by disease is easy to do if you have some self discipline. For example, a person with high cholesterol should avoid meats with high amounts of fat. Especially avoid red meat because it is often marbled with fat, whereas chicken fat can be more easily trimmed off. If you would like to remove all meat from your diet, be sure to substitute other proteins such as fish, nuts and beans. Cheese does have a high protein content, but it is also full of fat. If you choose to add cheese as a regular source of protein, buy low fat cheeses. Another example of a diet by disease is chronic diarrhea or some other form of irritable bowel syndrome. Again, you will want to remove excess fat from your diet, but be extremely cautious about maintaining balanced nutrition. The fats you will want to be especially careful about will be the ones in desserts and other sugary items. Refined sugar is your other main enemy. Substitute honey and try to get most of your sugar calories from fruit and 100% fruit juices. (Read the labels and don’t buy the juices that contain corn syrup.) When you diet by disease, take inventory of your overall health and specific needs. Diet by disease should always have an end result of complete nutrition. Your body needs resources from every food group, especially when it is trying to heal itself. Again, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to seek a medical opinion for your personalized diet by disease.
